The University of Calicut is the largest University in Kerala. Established in the
year 1968, it is the second university to be set up in Kerala. The University aims to
nurture excellence in education and research in its catchment areas of Northern
Kerala, historically consigned to the periphery of Kerala’s academic map.

1. Central University of Kerala
Central University of Kerala is one of the 15 central universities established under The Central
Universities Act, 2009 by Indian parliament. The university is situated in Kasaragod district,
the northernmost district of the state of Kerala, India.
Deemed University
Kerala kalamandalam is the premiere public institution in India preserving the artistic
heritage of Kerala through rigorous training and performance. Imparting systematic training
in Kathakali, Mohiniyattam, kutiyattam, Panchavadyam, Thullal, Mridangam, Carnatic music
and their sub-divisions such as vocal music, instrumental music, make-up and costuming
constitute the curriculum of kalamandalam, which has been functioning as a deemed to be
university from 2007 onwards.
